Hi Everyone!
How are you Mary? I like Celebrations of Life better than traditional funerals too.
I am also not a superfan of the Gynecologist.
How is everyone?
I am taking a break from myself for a week while my sister visits. I am not going to worry or overthink or anything. My sister arrives Monday.

A celebration of life is the way to go. I too am glad you're sharing your family and your grieving with us Mary. Sorry I am not replying to posts . I am struggling with pain and waiting to see my doctor for help , but when I arrived for my appointment it was to find he was unwell. The medical Centre didn't phone me. I was very upset. It's a 40km round drive and takes me forever to get ready. Another appointment and he was still unwell but they did phone this time. I see him on Wednesday...I hope. I will phone first. The office slipped up. Best wishes to everyone.

Sorry to hear about your appts. Silk, that is a real bummer going all that way and the Doc not being there. I hope he can help you with your pain.

Grassy... glad you are doing better and taking a break. I think you missed this post a page back. animationlessons.proboards.com/post/560562Have a good trip Huronna. I hope you have grand weather, easy flights, and a wonderful time! Silk; that is such a sad tale. I truly hope it is one of those stories that start with terrible difficulty and end with solid improvement. Crossing my fingers for you. I am booking an appt online for a hip/knee specialist to evaluate my chronic pain. Getting so there is no position that is bearable now from low back to knee. Hoping for a referral to PT but worried that will not be enough. Contemplating a deep tissue massage therapist too. My right side is just not right! Mary... still leaving hugs for you. Flagryl; I hope the grilling situation has eased. Have you gotten a gas one yet? Dashing and leaving ~~~WAVES~~~ to everyone else stopping in!

Huronna, I missed that you were taking your iPad. I wondered how you would survive?
Smilyn, I must have missed your note, sorry.
Silk, so sorry about those appointments. That is a drag. I hope you can get sorted out really soon.
Mary, how are you doing?
Flagryl, what do they need to do for the grill - installation and fire remediation? My sisters live in Colorado - one in the mountains and the one who is coming to visit me lives in Denver - and they both have to be so careful about fires. But Arizona is so parched right now. I just saw an interesting program on TV about a Saudi firm that drilled and got water in Arizona.

Hey, no problem, Grassy... I just saw you asking how everyone was and thought that link was a simple way to catch you up about me. Didn't mean anything by it.
Hey... what do you use on your nails? Mine are looking so bad these days. I always think of you as the pretty nails person.

Smilyn, I use a product by Salon Sciences called Starting Over After Artificials. You do not need to have worn artificials to use it either. But there is another product called Nailtiques that is even better than Starting Over. Nailtiques #2 is the bomb! The only caveat is you must use it faithfully. Another great product is called Nail Envy and it is by OPI.
Starting Over is the least expensive - you can get it on Amazon. My bottle is so old, I forgot how much I paid for it. You can get Nail Envy at places like Ulta and Sally's. Nailtiques is like $18 - $20 on Amazon, but make sure you get formula #2. The reason I would stick with Nailtiques is because you can always find it on Amazon and it lasts. It never gets bloppy. I can't find Starting Over right now so I may have to find a special beauty supply store to get it since I am getting no love on Amazon today. But they may list it again tomorrow.
Boy I bet you never expected a dissertation on nails.
One more thing: if your nails are not terribly damaged, Nail Envy is a nice product that is plentiful and easy to get too.

So Huronna is travelling almost unplugged, lots of luck w/that. Silk, good grief! That's an awful situation with you in pain. I hope that gets resolved SOON. Grassy, glad you are better. I hope it holds. Milyn that knee sounds awful, I hope you have a good ice maker in this heat or several iced gel packs. Mary, hang in there. Managing grief is hard work.
My 86 yr old sister-in-law, who was in a memory care unit in Wisc and not doing well, died last night. It's sad but also a blessing. I talked to her this last week and she fell asleep on the phone. She did remember the Shakespeare volumes she gave me and I got a sentence out of her regarding a legacy plant she gave me eons ago, it's thriving.
Grassy, the installers are going to hook up the new grill to an existing propane line we had installed when we built. It connects just below the kitchen sink on the outside of the house. No fire remediation is necessary. We are in stage 1 fire restrictions, no charcoal, no fires allowed anywhere in our county. But you can use a gas grill because it can be turned on and off and we have 16 feet of pavers between the grill and the edge of the patio. Now, if we go into stage 2 then NO gas grilling is allowed. I'm hoping the monsoons arrive soon and we don't get to stage 2. John is not keen on gas grilling because he likes the flavors w/charcoal but we'll have both. Personally, I do not like turkey or chicken cooked on charcoal. Now a smoker is a different story but we don't have a smoker. John just likes to grill things he can flip. He's an excellent baker of cakes and dessert bars, but it ends there. He's my sous chef and does chopping, etc to help me out once in a while. He does all the clean up and dishwashing and is the dishwasher superintendent, actually likes our new dishwasher. I took him into Home Depot and told the clerk, "He's choosing and I'm buying."

ALmost unplugged, I seriously thought about taking my lap top, infact i got it our this afternoon and plugged it in. It had not been used since March so it was really sluggish, in fact I couldn't get chrome to load up at all. Was able to use Opera, It wanted to upload Windows 11 and today was not the right time. And we are only going to be there 7 days have have not seen them in two years, so I figured it would be kinds of rude to pullout my lap top, easier to use Ipad. So closed it up. We are packed and will leave at 9 in the morning. Have our boarding passes but still have to check in at the counter since we are checking luggage. My friend asked if we were flying first class ha ha, they don't have any, we are in the second row, both aisle seats. Very odd feeling not flying first since that is all we have been flying for the past 7 years. oh well, I guess we will survive ha ha.
by the way we have 21 sets so far for the auction, and what an array, they are all beautious! I may be back later, if not probably in the airport of in CT.

Thank you Grassy... I loved your nail dissertation; that was really kind of you to write out for me. There is an Ulta near me and a Sally's... I'll go see what I can find. I think I will try Nail Envy. I used to use a lot of OPI.
I am officially wearing clothing I have not worn since 2019. It's so exciting to have old friends on. I really hate shopping and am not fond of the cut, feel, or quality of clothing marketed now. I much prefer to take care of my things and wear them for a very long time. If I keep slimming I may be able to get into flannel lined LL Bean jeans from the 80's this winter. If not, I'll at least be back in things from the 90's. I'm really happy to be making this progress. I'm moving better too. I am almost ready to have Steve replace the toilet seat. Why? Because it is almond colored to match the porcelain, and I have not been able to get off that seat without bracing my hand on the front between my legs for three years. There is a white arc worn in the front of the closed curve of that seat that tattles on me, and I hate it. I can almost always manage without doing that because I am lighter and stronger. Almost. Now, that's not something I would share with the world, but I am so happy to be able to share it with my family here. It's such a good sign!
Pouring rain. Bucketing. I hope the storms are not affecting Huronna's flight. Crossing fingers!

Arrived I CT this afternoon and all is well, So nice being with friends. Milyn I have been using Nailtique #2 since 1995. Love it , I use it as a base coat and top coat. My nails are strong and only crack when they get way too long. See you all tomorrow

Nail question, so Huronna...you apply this Nailtique #2, then your polish and then a top coat. What top coat do you use?

Flagryl; I wanted to share my condolences with you, and my understanding of the mixed feelings too. I am glad she is no longer suffering and also glad that there were those brief moments of connection before she moved on. Her situation has been a heartbreaking journey. May she be forever in the clarity of the light now. If you don't mind, could you share more about the Shakespeare and the Destiny plant? (And if you look at the post again, you'll see that Huronna said she uses Nailtique #2 as both Base and Top coat. I'm curious about that product now...)

Nailtique conversation ha ha. When I do my nails it takes me hours. The nailtique dries quickly, so about five minutes after the first coat, I put a second one. I also use an aerosol called quick dry. Quick spay at this point. Wait a few minutes and first coat of nail polish, no particular brand, I buy for colors, usually pearl like colors, never a bright red or orange, because it way ro obvious if you Knick a wee bit a few days later. Spray quick dry after first coat of color. Wait about a hour , that’s when I may play games on my iPad, being careful not to smudge nail, now depending if your color is complete or you may need another coat of color. Quick spray. Wait another hour and top coat is thesame nailtique. Usually my nails are good for three weeks, sometimes only have to redo because they are growing. It’s a long procedure , Usually do it while watching tv drying the time.
Now it’s time to socialize

I am appreciating this nail dissertation. I stopped having my salon owner doing my manicures w/gel polish because my cuticles are so sensitive. Eating yogurt keeps my nails strong but I have split nails and think I'll try this Nailtigue #2, they sell it at Target. Thanks Milyn for your words per Susan, she treated me like family. 7 years older than John, she was very much a surrogate mother to him and they were close. He's having a rough go with this. So, the Shakespeare Volumes. I suspect they were originally John's grandfather's, his mom's dad, who graduated from college in 1897. I suspect he bought them second-hand as there is a name that I do not recognize written in the first volume. Susan was starting to downsize sometime around 2008 or so and on a roadtrip back there, she gave them to me. Knowing their youngest sister had a BA in English from Stanford, I said Susan don't you want these to go to Nancy. Abruptly she said, No. I want you to have them. They had been specifically given to Susan by her mother. So, that's that. I do think there were tensions between these woman and Nancy used to I think bully Susan, the introvert. I am going to pack them up and ship them off to John's son who wants them. His sister was not interested. This is the plant that has grown from the slip she gave me. I don't know exactly what it is, some sort of sanservieria I think. I have a large sanservieria, snake plant, and they are not that similar. When I talked to Susan last week she remembered giving me the Shakespeare volumes and loved hearing about the plant. I got a sentence out of her, she said "Plants need a lot of care." She had lots of house plants and wonderful perennials in the yard of her condo, many transplated from her home that had belonged to her mom and dad. Every year on my birthday she would send me a calendar from the Metropolitian Art Museum in NY. Love that woman!

Flagryl, please tell John that I extend my sympathy to him as well. What a lovely woman. That's a beautiful and tender tale about the books... the calendar made me smile, but the bullying concern made me sad. I think that happens a lot and people never know. I'm so glad she felt happy to pass them on to you - and also that you have a willing home planned for them. I have some of mom's antique books, some that came with Steve, and some I collected in the 80's when I ran a thrift shop and also lived near a used bookstore (dangerous!) I love them but who will want them? I don't think anyone. I have to collect them and get someone to sell them, I think. There are a couple with illustrations and I hate the thought of them going for sale. I was in a "Antique"store in upstate New York years ago and saw framed prints of all the illustrations from one of the Dicken's books I own; they had cut it up! I was appalled. As for the plant; I was given something taller but similar (Sansevieria common name: Mother In Law's Tongue,) a decade ago. I apparently created a Bonsai out of it by never re-potting it. At one point the size of the leaves and shape of plants (it had babies) was very much like your picture. But the leaves are all quite tiny now. Susan was right: plants need a lot of care and I am absolutely dreadful at it. Most die. That one is a survivor. I am sure I should re-pot it, but terrified of doing it, lol. And the pot is very pretty one. I don't want a much larger one in that spot - the only plant spot I have in this poorly lit house. I hope it doesn't die. I need a "Susan" to look at it!

Flagryl, I am so sorry about Susan's passing. My deepest condolences to you and John both.
Mary, how are you doing?
How is everyone?
Smilyn, congrats on being able to fit into those clothes again!
The nail dissertation - Nailtiques is awesome stuff! You must use it faithfully, though, to continue to get the effects. If you stop using it, your nail issues return. I am glad Target has it - I will look for it there. Thanks for the intel! I use quick-dry polish which dries in 60 seconds so my time goes quickly. I also use a product called Out The Door which is a rapid dry top coat. It dries the top coat in 5 minutes so you don't have to be as careful. I can sit for a half-hour and then be done. But I still don't dig through my purse or do things that might mess up my manicure. The polishes Huronna uses are so beautiful but they are not rapid dry which make the manicures last longer because they are not so much water. Quick-dry polish has more water in it.
Flagryl, thanks for the information about your grill. Also, those volumes of Shakespeare are beautiful, and so is the plant. And just an aside, I saw the windowsills - Dove would love to sit there and look out your windows. Ha Ha.
Huronna, are you having fun in CT?
Now, am I forgetting anything? I likely am, so I may need to write more messages. Ha ha.

Flagryl, so sorry to hear of the loss of your friend. She sounds like she was a lovely person. Learned a new card game last night…golf, interesting and easy to learn. We always play a lot of games when we are together. Joe and Rick spent men time yesterday, wonder what they talked about for three ours in the work shop. Jackie and I talked about trips comparing where each have been and going. Nice quiet relaxing time

Good evening everyone. A short post again. I read everything though. I always did my own nails and luckily have good shaped ones. Nowadays I keep them unpolished and short. It was interesting reading. Milyn..sounds as though your hips are misbehaving. I have had two hip replacements. Usually there is knee pain and also groin pain plus in the joint.,..absolute that hot place. I use a high toilet seat and also have one for travelling. It can be darned hard getting up and down ,otherwise. I can see your efforts and have been through that! Congrats on your weight and sobriety. What a gal! Huronna, enjoy your trip. Flagryl ,the Shakespeare volumes are wonderful. The plant looks very healthy. I finally saw my Doctor yesterday...he has had Covid and is still suffering. We are trying medication patches for two weeks and then I'll see him again. There is some improvement . Just to add to the pain I have a burst of tendonitis. Doing exercises so hope for improvement, and applying Voltaren. I did get my challenge done. I actually got some relief from the neuropathy last night. Hoping for the same tonight. Mary, how are you doing ?

Hope the patches help. Silk, I found that a product called Australian Dream arthritis cream really helps. When I had the arthroscopic on my knee, for a long time it would throb when I laid down. Put this on and the throbbing stops. When my back hurts, Joe rubs it on. Busy day coming up, touring around Newport and the mansions and then off to the casino…woo hoo!

Plans changed, way to much traffic this way, so we stopped at a local pub and had a great late lunch. Really terrific menu and food, then decided to just turn back and go to the casino. We all sort of broke even which makes it a good fun day. Just got back and it’s almost 8 pm. Time for a light dinner and then for more games tonight.
