After Milton hit, we noticed that one of the huge Live oak trees was damaged from the wind and was leaning towards the house. Many of the tree removal companies were dealing with more dire circumstances, but we finally were on the list and "Tree Day" was today. Tried posting on Facebook, but they came out sidewards, gree. They are all labeled 1-23.

John asked me how long it took them, knew they'd have to section it. We had an 80 ft Ponderosa taken down a while ago.

they arrived at 8:30 on the dot. All the equipment except the crane were temporarily parked in front of my house and neighbors, no driveways were blocked. The Mitch has to call the owner of the 7 acre property behind us so he would open his gates for them to go in as they had to do everything from that side. There was no way things would even get through between the houses, and the distance from the street to the tree was too far, "the high capacity 60 ton" crane, depending on the specific model and boom configuration, can typically reach anywhere between 50 to 100 feet horizontally, " the one they use reaches 72 feet horizontally. Our distance was 145 ft. It took them about 45 minutes to set up until I heard the first saw, which were smaller branches, so they could get into the tree. They finished at 2 pm, but were still at the property cleaning up everything until around 3:30. I saw around 8 men, spotters, riggers, sawyers, lift operator, loader operator, stump grinder operator, etc.
The difficulty with this one is that the only way it could be reached was using the other persons property. I knew the previous owner very well, but I had never met this one until Sunday when I saw the gates open and men working inside and I just drove on in and spoke to the owner and the son.
They didn't give me exact height, but said if it had fallen it would have reached all the way to our front yard, and that is about 125+ feet.

It's called a Live oak, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quercus_virginiana#/media/File:FL_Volusia_Oak03.jpgKnown for its sprawling branches and majestic presence, the live oak is a cornerstone of Florida's natural heritage. Live oaks are protected due to their long lifespan and ecological benefits. unless damaged as this one was, you can not cut them down without a permit. Live oaks can live for well over 60 years, often reaching 250-500 years in good growing locations. Maturity is reached by 75 years. The property was underdeveloped when it was sold to the construction company. I think there must have been some stipulation as there is a live oak on almost every plot of land, in our development. But Trees with structural damage to the main trunk, including splits and fractures, should be removed. ours was uprooted, not totally but it was raising the ground around it.

So glad it’s down. Hard to lose a very old tree like that but it’s dangerous when it starts to lean, shallow root systems that have evolved make it unstable. Sleep well now
