Update on Barbara

I know that she is not a member here at AL, (she doesn't animate) but she has been a member of Angels since 2014. She usually does some of the challenges, but other than that she doesn't say much. Many of you may know her from other sites, I will give you some hints so you will recognise her. She had a guide dog Colin for many years and then a little over a year ago, the guide Dog society thought ie was time that he be retired. Barbara was so happy when her sister was able to take Colin. She now had Dudly, who was young and it took a while for them to get used to each other. I have followed Barbara's story for many years on Facebook and many some of you know her from other sites.
I got this PM from her this morning, and I thought I would share it with you, for those who know her:
Hi Huronna, i don’t know if you heard. i am not posting it on FB.
At 2am on 3rd september i wanted to go to the bathroom (bedroom and bathroom are upstairs with stairs inbetween). instead i found myself sitting downstairs on the living room floor with back to stairs. my injuries are life changing, badly open femur fracture, the bone above the knee shattered, broken wrist (both right, i am right handed), several broken ribs. i had a first surgery on my right leg same night and lengthy surgery the next day to try to patch up my leg and wire the wrist. Prognosis: recovery 3-6 months, possibly never able to walk again as before. i am still in hospital, what is going to happen i don’t know. my older daughter will come here as soon as i am able to do the long trip and take me to Shetland with her, to live with her and her family. i can’t go back to the place i lived, it is rented, too small for downstairs living and with my injuries and sight impairment upstairs is out of the question.
luckily i have an apple watch and was able to alert my younger daughter. not sure what would have happened otherwise… my daughter looked at all options to take me in, but in current home impossible and moving to more suitable housing financially impossible. i have a single son as well, he is autistic like all the family and can’t handle the situation. my children are used to a strong mum who copes with everything.
i have no idea when i can get on a computer again.
Of course I responded as soon as I was on Facebook. I told her a bit about Roni's fall and her ordeal and also wondered if she was going to be able to keep Dudley.
She then responded...
Thank you so much 😀. i have had many falls over the decades and this is the first time i have done serious damage. i know the fall could very easily resulted in a different way…. this is what i am clinging to, God still wants me to be alive, still has use for me. it has been known for about 20 years that i have osteopenia.
my sister and Mum had fractures in the pelvis area from falling while standing.
i am expecting guide dogs to tell me that since I had Dudley only for a year they are retraining him to somebody else (probably already assessing him for it…) as i am months away from working him. i asked them to bring him to me and they have just made excuses why not.
i really hope that i can make a good enough recovery to enjoy life and not have to depend for everything on others.
