my best friends husband. They had to rush her to the hospital this afternoon. She has been in Stage 5 (end stage) of kidney failure since October, 2008. She was able to have a port put into her peritoneum for dialysis, but it never healed shut around the port properly. She has been bleeding from that incision since they did the surgery in December.
She has been to the doctor who kept saying "it will heal you have to give it time", and "use this salve on it". Well it hasn't healed and the salve made it worse and now............she has Fungal Peritonitis!!!
There are two kinds....fungal and bacterial. Fungal is the worst and the hardest to get cleared up so they have to go in tomorrow to remove the port and put one in her arm for Hemo-Dialysis. She knows her life is short, and she also knows she can pass away from this latest development and she is scared to death.
Her hubby called me tonight to tell me she is asking for me, so I asked him if I could call her room. He said she had her cell with her and to call it since it was late. She is in a private room and was able to talk for a few minutes. She sounds very weak and is asking me to come tomorrow to the hospital before she goes to surgery. Of course I would be there. She is my best friend. We quilt together all the time.
I may not get in to the group tomorrow. She is in a hospital 75 miles away because the ones close to here are not experienced in the ports she has and has to have and her surgeon is in the hospital she went to.
I will let you all know what happens as soon as I can. It seems like one thing gets better and something else happens. She told me tonight she does not want to die, but she does not want to live this way either. I told her she cannot die because we have way too much quilting to be done!! I pray they found this problem in time to fix it and get her healed and back on her feet. She has had a rough year or so, and I have tried to be there with her every step of the way.
I will be back in when I can. Please send your healing thoughts to Alberta.
I am off to read the board, then into bed so I can leave at 5 a.m. Glad my hubby is going with me, that is a long drive alone!
