Hey everyone. I have been working on a quilt project I am wanting to do this spring/summer/fall. It is going to be a lengthy process so if I begin now it will be done for the holidays. It was a good day to quilt with friends as it has been raining all day. But now it is storming so badly I couldn't watch TV, and the wind is blowing about 28 mph but gusting to over 50 mph at times. They are calling for very severe weather on into the night. I just got off the phone with the couple who lives in the next 2 acres over from me. They live in Charlotte, about a 4 hour drive from here one way. Sad I had to tell them that a huge tree came down, right through their plate glass windows in the living room!! The only way I saw it I was looking out my sewing/computer room window, and the front of their house faces us, and I saw it laying there on the roof and the deck. Hubby ran out to get into the truck and got down there to see if it in fact went through......Oh ya, big time!! :-( Nothing we can do for them, it is way too big to cover, and it is storming so badly it isn't safe to go out. The way it is raining right now their home will be soaked inside before they can ever get gone from Charlotte. I am glad I got home when I did. Stopped at Subway for subs on the way home from the shop, and I just got into the house about 20 minutes and it began to pour and blow. I am now settled into WIGH for the remainder of my Beginner lessons, which will be finished tonight. I hope everyone here has had a better day. I'm off to read the board now.

OH How awful for them Anita... I always worry when its storming real bad around us cuz of the tall pine trees... they don't have much of a root system and can fall down anytime... I sure hope they have good insurance... at least they weren't in the house when it came down... they might have been killed or badly injured...
My 85 year old step mother is still quilting up a storm... I have one small hanging quilt I haven't finished... if I can find it I think I'll take it down to her and have her quilt it on her quilting machine... I'll take a picture of it someday and show ya... its not as fancy as yours but the best I can do LOL...

Gosh Anita, that must have been the storm that passed through here the day before yesterday. I hear that had some devestating tornados in Oklahoma that killed a few and destroyed a lot of property.
I don't think it is over yet either. We are expecting another storm to come though here in Arizona on Saturday.
Be safe and I am sorry to hear about your neighbor's place.

GB, I would love to see your quilt. Love seeing other people's work. We have a lady here who is in the guild and she still hand quilts and just had her 93rd birthday Jan 21st. Her work is wonderful and she refuses to use a machine, for much of anything. She just finished hand piecing a small baby blanket for the Outreach program for the Preemie's in the hospital. The entire thing was done by hand from start to finish and it is absolutley beautiful. The mother who receives this one for her baby will be one lucky woman.
The couple who owns the house by me phoned and said they will head on home in the morning. there is nothing that can be done tonight, and there is no way they can access the house with all the trees debris around. They said they called the cleanup crew who will be here at daybreak to begin taking it down the rest of the way and covering the house until the insurance company comes. Hubby said it was in fact big pine that pulled right out of the ground! Such a small root ball for such an old and huge tree.

That's terrible Anita. Storms are always such a concern. I feel so sorry for your neighbours...it was good though that you were able to contact them. Hugs, Silk

The worlds weather seems to have become so intense .From the heat in australia to the snow and storms on the other side of the world . All has brought tales of devastaion and saddness .What shines through in all of this is how people all pull together ,its just a shame that it takes such awful things to happen for the world to unite .
