Every one in the path, please stay as safe as you can! My parents were at Virginia Beach with my SIL and BIL so they headed back yesterday. Mom said it would probably be their last vacation as they are 79 and 80 and my Dad has trouble staying on his feet.

Not safe to be out driving and running at that age if they are having issues, Mary. It is sad that people have to stop doing things they love to do, but it does happen. John and I used to camp all the time until I couldn't help him with the set up anymore so we had to sell our camper and do other things.
I hope they get home safely and everyone in Florida on the East coast is safe. It is a mean, ugly storm.

Talked to my nephew. They are staying in Charleston unless forced leave. They purchased more bottled water and a hand-crank radio and were fixing a place in a closet for the cats.

There are 3 members on the east coast of Florida that I know of - b*ker, dest, and me. It's raining and the winds are picking up. Previews of what's to come. I think it's supposed to hit during the night.

Latest report from the National Weather Service is the storm is a CAT 4 and expected to strengthen later this evening. CAT 5 is the strongest. They predict the east coast of Florida is going to be under the gun for about 60 hours before it is all done. But come Monday and Tuesday it is expected to make a U turn and head back to Florida, but that is not a definite as yet.

Betsy, you are not evacuating? Have you ever in the past. Is your area being evacuated, how far would you have to go, especially with pets.?

Just a quick check-in before I close things down in preparation for the morning's predicted arrival of Matthew. We are 20 minutes inland from Daytona, so we are are in no danger from the ocean activity. The prediction for the strength of the winds have been lowered, so that is good. Matthew has also gone down from a 4 to a 3 by the time it meets up with us. More good news and now they say it is taking a more easterly course and that too is good news. I am praying for a cold front to move in and chase the bugger out to sea. That would be brilliant! Don't scoff. It's happened before. We are as prepared as we are going to be. This is not our first time dealing with a blowhard. We survived the trio and Andrew was a bear. I'm not talking teddy, more like a grizzly. I will check in after the brouhaha is done. Hugs!

A bit after 3AM here.
I believe Matthew has moved north of me. Winds still howling and blustery but not nearly the intensity they were saying earlier.

I was out all day yesterday at Johns sisters almost 3 hrs away, I was shattered when I got home. My thoughts and prayers had been with all the people the hurricane has touched. To members here, at AD and The Zone stay safe to ride out the storms. My thoughts and prayers will continue to be with you all.

Really worried about my 86 yr old client, I looked after for 3 yrs while in Florida. She lives only half mile from the beach on barrier island and I called her yesterday to see that she left.. and she was not gonna evacuate.. Her house is at 0 sea level.. Her kids tried really hard to talk her into getting out of there but she wouldn't go.. I am soo worried.. she is wheel chair bound and no way she can get out of the way of a surge of water.. no news on the town I used to live in.. yet
