Wow Suzie...that is High . I wasn't aware you have celiac disease. It all sounds pretty miserable for you. You can send me some of that weight please. I am so thin. Are there any pleasant walks where you live. My heart rate and BP are erratic just now but seem to be on the low side except for the heart rate which is high, when it has been low for ages. Huronna, our climate is rather like yours but not quite as hot. We have a tiled roof that is still good. The house is 40 years old and is double brick with some timber. In Summer the frogs get in between the brick walls and set up a great cacophany. Julien cooked a nice chicken drumstick bake with a very nice mash and zucchinis last night. Our Water Dragon has been lying in the birdbath for hours this morning. What a life ! Getting tired so will wish you all well. Suzie I hope you'll be feeling better very soon.

Some snow was in the forecast but tonight we had hail making a loud cacophony on our metal roof, mimicking your frog Silk. Then thunder and lightning, oh my. It's going to ruin the fall leaves. We want to take our annual drive back behind the peaks where the Aspen are turning their brilliant yellows.

Joe finally got scheduled for his first eye cataract next week. It’s hard to believe that I had mine done in 2008, wow that’s a long time ago. Roof is totally completed, they came this morning with an electromagnet and went all around the house and driveway to make sure no nails or anything left behind. Also checked passport receipt and they have gotten Joes but it will still take a couple of months to get it back. Have my trainer tomorrow and have to fill up my tank before I go, it’s been months since it needed food. FEED ME!!, it is saying. Then Friday having lunch in Ybor at the Columbia with a friend from work Busy couple of days ahead

Good morning. I remember when you had your cataracts done Huronna. I had mine not long after. Over the past six months I realize I now need my reading glasses updated. Best wishes for Joe. Ben has had his nose op.on the septum and can already breathe better, he had some other work done on his nose too. I received an email ,' Hello, George Clooney here '. My reply ' What took you so long George !' Ben had two lovely black eyes. Julien ( my eldest son ) left yesterday. It's quiet here. Nothing exciting to tell from me. Flagryl..will we see a photo of your Autumn leaves. A novelty for us. The only deciduous trees we have are imported. Lots of them were planted in snow country. Mainly Aspens. I bought a pair of lovely red sandals...woohoo ! The old girl is gussying up. I've rabitted on for long enough. I wonder how Angel is and Grassy, are you feeling better? A large Brush Turkey wandered onto our lawn. My friend Judy tells me not to give them her address...they upturn her pots.

Joe is having cataract surgery on Thursday, he has to be there at six in the am which means we have to get up at four. I’m his designated driver, yawn! They have to monitor him carefully since he has AFIB, but he has been ok’d . It’s going to be along week ahead.

Interesting Huronna, it was while I was waiting for the surgery they dicovered I had A-Fib. Best wishes to Joe. Day four after Ben's nose surgery. Looking good and for the first time he can breathe without having his mouth open. Sid, their cat is looking very well all things considered. He was very interested in the meds and gave the sniff treatment to Ben's face. I would have no compunction in stealing Sid.

Great photo! Makes me want to get a kitty. I have had quite a few in my younger days, but not fair now with all the travel in store (hopefully)

Pretty kitty... very relaxed too. So glad Ben's surgery went well. Mouth breathing is so hard.
Good luck to Joe on Thurs! I had to be there that early as well - and we also were driving with the nightowls. Be sure to tell them if he has any history of needing more than the usual medication for pain of any kind. I had awakened screaming during a colonoscopy two years before and needed more pain meds and didn't think to mention it. My first eye was grueling and terrifying. They had plenty of meds for the second though. I still have nightmares about #1.
It is cool here. Yesterday was a beautiful Indian Summer day - in the 80's - but I missed it. Friday I got my Pfizer Booster at noon. In the night I started to get sick. yesterday was a long day of intense deep bone pain that I won't go into further. So far every vaccine has been hard on me - [probably because I am a long haul survivor and my body remembers.] I hope I am totally over it tomorrow, I have many appointments this week.
I have officially lost more than 25 lbs and 5 dress sizes. I see my cardiologist Weds and I know he will finally not give me the severe frowny face lecture. I still need to lose more (put on 65 during Covid while losing all muscle tone,) but I do believe I am able to do so. Very slowly, but fairly steadily I have put muscle back on and raised my metabolism. I am in my old size 16 bathing suit now. I have 14, 12, and 10 in the drawer too, lol.
I need to go lie down again... I hope everyone has the best Sunday they can!

Sorry about your reaction, I imagine you are correct about your body remembering. I had my cataracts taken acre of in 2008, one on a Tuesday and the other that Friday and was back to work on Monday. I just hated having those drops put in, but Joe would tie me down to do it (ha ha only kidding). Regarding him and pain, before his big surgery on his back in 2017, he was on all kinds of pain meds. Since his recovery which was actually 6 months later, I don't think he has even taken an aspirin. So I'm not worried about the pain, that must be an individual thing. I just am apprehensive about him going under any anesthesia. BUt he has to have it done, his chair is almost touching the TV now LOL That's great on the weight loss. Wowzer, you have done great! I put on about 6 pounds over the summer visits and cruise, and it's a bear trying to get it off.

I did not have anesthesia. They do laser cataract surgery (a week apart) here, wide awake in a special chair. It is very important that you don't move at all - and I did not - even though I was screaming in my head and digging my nails into my palms.

Eeek gads! They would never have gone near my eyes, I couldn't even stand to have drops put in them. I do remember going under, because I don't remember getting on the table or how I wound up in a chair when they said, ok what do you see. I went from being totally out of it to being totally awake, so it must have been propanol, like in colonoscopies. I remember everything being so white and when I got back on the computer how grainy some of my older animations were.

I remember the white, but there were many black spots in my left eye (the first painful one) due, they said, to a more severe cataract condition they had to break apart. I have often wondered if this took them longer than normal and caused my eye drop pain meds to wear off. Eye drop pain meds are measured in minutes. I know because I had to wait for the second eye and saw someone being given another round of drops as things had fallen behind. I still have one black floater that makes me think a fruit fly is in my vision, but the rest have gone - and that one is probably the biggest in a shrunken form - originally I thought it was a fly.
My friend told me she was on a table and they taped her head down before giving her meds... I don't think I could do that. Odd how we each can tolerate one thing and not another when we have no choice.

That all sounds horrible Milyn. Although my surgery was successful I did feel one sharp pain and ever since I feel I have something in my right eye. I have a feeling he nicked something. I remember saying ' ouch'. All in all I am glad I had it done.

I can't decide Silk. I know I'd have been nearly blind to drive eventually, but the super human vision I had from birth has been lost - the ability to see closely so acutely that I could see my pores. My eye dr once asked me what kinds of crafts or skills were in my genealogy. When I told him "tatted" lace makers from France he said "That is where your vision comes from. If we followed your genealogy back we would always find embroiders or miniature painters or gold engravers or something like. They would have had to be led around by a small child for most of their later years, but the community would take care of that because of their super acute vision. Think about removing a thorn without a magnifying glass and you will see why."
I can't get reading glasses because my lenses are multi-focal. One eye sees one thing and the other focuses a bit beyond. Steve really wanted me to have them. I can see the stars and trees and read (though even the keyboard is blurry,) but I cannot see my fingertips - even with glasses. When my vision is stable I will try to get glasses made with different lenses so I can get the thorns out of Steve's poor hands - as he expects me to be able to do - because I always have. I hope that can be done.
I am sorry about your pain Silk and very much sympathize with the feeling you have. But at least you can see your water dragon and the other vibrant life around you!

Congrats on that weight loss Milyn, that's amazing. I hope Joe's surgery goes well. I am nervous because I have an appt Dec 30 for a lens replacement consult. Hearing your story makes me nervous Milyn. My vision is not bad but the light bothers me alot.
I am so glad Ben's surgery went well Silk. I have a separated septum so I can imagine. My allergies are terrible. I am so pleased he is doing well.
My treadmill gets set up tomorrow, can't wait. Been using my Desk Cycle and love it, it's amazing.

Flagryl, I'm sorry I have worried you. If you have ever needed extra pain meds be sure to tell them. They are prepared for that and would much rather up your dose than have you move. It's a fast procedure, so little changes mean a lot. As for vision: you will love your eyes. You will see more clearly than you can believe. I swear I can see the Space Station pass. It's a wonderful thing to see leaves moving in treetops in vivid colors.
My situation is extremely unique. I remember my optometrist cautioning me years ago not to get Lasix surgery (not that I was really interested in it) because it would cost me my hyper-acute extreme close up vision. I never thought about that in connection to cataract surgery at all. Everything I do in life for work or fun utilized that vision. Far sight never mattered much. But tiny cross stitch, delicate glass patterns on beads, reading old books... so many things. Now I can't see my own eyes up close to get a cat hair out. Most people did not have that, so they do not miss it. Simple. I am grieving what I lost yet I do appreciate that I see. I hate the blurry keyboard the most... each eye sees it differently. One blurs sideways and one up. But that is me. I have multi-focals. Few people get them. Steve insisted as he wanted me to have the best. The cost a small fortune. He is sad now because I can't get the thorns from his fingers or read him the little print in manuals etc. It's something we both will get over. I will be able to drive as long as I live. I will see the things mom became unable to see. Please don't elevate your blood pressure on this because of me. Do what you can to be prepared and let it go. If you are nervous; tell them. They get a lot of that and can handle it. HUGS.

when in was in consultation with St. Luke's, I had read articles regarding the different lens for each eye and I questioned them about it. They said that a lot of people had headaches afterward because you were neither in or out of fucus depending on where you looked, and they didn't recommend it for people over 55. And at the time I was already 67. I too had that marvelous closeup vision. WOuld take me glasses off to thread a needle ot take out a splinter or anything close, like the directions on medicines. Now? I have computer glasses all over the house because they are basically the same as my readers and I do more on the computer or read on the Ipad. But I have another pair of 3.5 for doing my nails or when I had to clip the ferrets toe nails. Or thread a needle. Glasses Glasses everywhere!

I am getting wavy lines now where there should be straight since a few months. Haven't the energy to go to the optometrist. My reading glasses are not dong the job for very small print but I found a pair of 3.5 glasses in a drawer that are working. Flagryl, don't be nervous...everyone is different . Thank you regarding Ben's surgery....he gets the bandages off tomorrow and expects to see George Clooney. Sid keeps Ben company.

Well, George Clooney huh. I'll bet he looks and feels just like him. Bravo. I hope Joe does well tomorrow, that early morning stint may require some afternoon naps. Let us know how he does Huronna.
Ironically, my doctor's office called this afternoon and an earlier appt for a consult to plan the lens replacements opened up in mid Dec so that should move things along. I would think multifocus would work for me as it's a brain thing and I wore only 1 contact before I graduated to glasses 15 years ago. John tried them with contacts before his surgery but didn't work for him so he got 2 longs and wears reading glasses for close up.
Today was a big day. My new treadmill that was delivered last week finally got it's iFit program app downloaded after several tries, who knows why it balked. The tech and I did a hard reset and then all was good. My soft resets did not do the trick. We also stopped at Verizon this morning and both of us got new phones, a new Nokia flip for John as he doesn't not want a smart phone and an iPhone 13 for me. Now I have an old iPad and iPhone 6 to giveaway. Oh, also have my old computer too. I will do a kill on the computer and recycle it. Probably the same with the others as both are fairly old.
John washed half of our windows yesterday and will do the rest tomorrow or Fri, warmer in the upper 50s here and sunny. I get a mani tomorrow.

Today was a lovely coolist day. The first in a long time. Joe had planted this "thing" in the from garden quite a while ago, He thought it was pretty, it was until it completely covered the entire floor of the garden and started to climb up all over the plants. The landscaper guys worked on it the other day and got three huge black bags of stuff out of the garden. But when we came home from the gym, we made a close inspection and there were still lots of roots everywhere. So I started working on it and two hours later have another two big bags, not only of that but dead leaves and overgrowth. It really needed a cleaning out. And today was a good day to do it. Tomorrow will be another story LOL Told Joe I probably will just pull an all nighter LOL
No new news on Angel

What was it, an invasive species? I do hope Angel is okay and Joe's surgery goes well tomorrow.

Post by Huronna on Oct 21, 2021 5:26:45 GMT -5
It definitely was invasive. in a pot it would have been quite pretty as the leaves were green and purple. I just googled and it was a wandering Jew, sometimes called the garden beast LOL. Joe must have planted or even just put a spring in the garden and since we don't tend the yard anymore, it's left to the grass cutters and landscapers if we tell them we want something done. Actually since we always go out through the garage, I never really noticed it, but when I finally did, I almost passed out. I'm sure there are still sprigs left and I'll have to keep an eye on it so it doesn't do that again. It was winding around the sego palm and the chinese palms and a bunch of other plants. yucko. Well I am home from dropping off Joe at the VA. Now I just wait for the call that he is out of surgery and in recovery. and then I drive back up there. It takes about 30-45 minutes. Since I was up at 4, I may just crash in a little while. Nothing about Angel on her site this morning, I already dropped in there.
