Great story, but I bet it really did stink. I can't stand the smell of fish, let alone old rotten ones LOL

Oh! Flagryl...I can't imagine that awful smell in the car. Did you put a peg on your nose? Today has been blah but I did get some PSP done. I am sure the Baileys helped. Had Continental frankfurts with French mustard for dinner with cabbage cooked in butter and added Fennel seeds, potato and parsnip mash. One of my favourite meals. Joe really ' cuts the mustard when required ' in his new role of cook's offsider. Almost bedtime for me .

I realize that's an Aussie dinner, but I think it has a German history because my Mom used to make that for my Dad, a German family history. Not the fennel or parsnips but the rest.
We are breathing a sigh of relief as the fire management team has been so expert and precise with lighting strategic fire lines along outer roads and especially the large backburn at the top of the canyon, these people are good. I can see the smoke and hear the planes from the backburn and we do have some cooler days w/anticipated rain so let's hope they hold those lines, it's a big backburn, and we don't have any major lightning wildfires. The fire did absorb another lightning fire and grew larger. It's up to 46,000 acres now.
Smell is mostly gone from car but it needs a thorough carpet cleaning inside. I made chicken salad w/red grapes, celery and lil green onions and Skinny Girl Poppyseed dressing over bed of lettuce last night, really good. Tonight it's baked salmon and cous cous w/salad. John baked a Zinfully Chocolate Cake for Father's Day but I'm staying away from it, loaded with sugar and butter. Very rich.

Had my hair cut last night, Appt was at 5:30, so when I came home I said to Joe, let's try someplace new for dinner. 1st and last time. I judge return visits by the cleanliness of their bathrooms (of which I always have to use when there) and there wine sizes LOL. Well the bathroom was immaculate, but it was the smallest serving of wine I had ever seen, She said it was 6 oz, but I swear it was 3. Food was ok, nothing to brag about, so, won't be returning there.
Got us early this morning, 7:30??? and now it's only 1 and I guess it's time to get ready to go to the gym. Have no idea what is planned for the rest of the day, of yes, have to go grocery shopping, no more yugurt, or strawberries or salad goodies. then...who knows

Good afternoon all. Yesterday morning my son's both Jason and Chris lost their father Ron, at home . He did manage to make it home on Thursday , yet to go to heaven on Friday, June 25th. My oldest son Chris missed seeing his father by 10 minutes, which breaks my heart. Their father will be cremated and their will be a visitation in the future. I feel for the family members and friends right now. Please keep his wife and my son's in your prayers.

My thoughts are with you Margie and your sons. Flagryl good news of the fire. I agree, those people have my greatest admiration. What the 'Firies' do is beyond brave. Yes, you're right that is a German dish. My German friend serves it with diced potatoes boiled and then fried with chopped onions , cabbage with carroway seeds. I prefer the fennel seeds. I had parsnips left over from barley soup we made.. hence the mash. I like cous cous stuffed capsicums. Your meals sounds delicious. I love grapes or pear in a salad. How good it is to have our hair done. I had mine done last week. The wine Huronna...I once worked a bar at our local surf hotel after my regular job to make some extra money. They make money by short serving the drinks . I was not good at that and everyone was well served by me. No doubt your restauarant was saving a little.

They may have been saving a little, but they lost return customers. And the place is like less than 1/2 a mile from our house.

It always amazes me how some businesses can't see how bad practices are not good business. I have no pity for them.

I used to work in a restaurant/bar too. Oh there's a story there, but a standard pour for wine is 5 ounces, some give 5.4. We had corn on the cob tonight instead of cous cous, forgot we had them.
New issue: Noticed a huge hole beneath what was a ponderosa pine tree that was cut down several years ago after it was dying and then the rest of it after it was dead. At that time, noticed an animal had dug a huge hole. Looking for grubs I thought. Covered it up. Fast forward to today and another HUGE hole had been dug. Hmmm. We do have badgers here and I love their presence because they, like skunks, are predators to yellow jackets. I'm allergic to them. At first we wondered if a badger was digging a home. Not good, too near our patio made of pavers. So we poured some bleach down the hole, and some yellow jackets flew out later. Holy moly. I think we found the nest. Now here in the dry SW, one doesn't want to pour gasoline down the hole as one might do in the midwest and then light it. No, thank you. We are going to wait and then figure out what to do. May try to buy a product. I've been looking for the nest for years and think I've taken down the population w/trapping them. I've read that most nests are just below the surface but some can go down an far as 4 ft. Holy moly. Aren't you glad I shared this?

Phew! We get some wasps making their cones in the corners of some windows, but every three months, here comes our full service, termite bate checks, they sweep all the wasp stuff of and we actually have tubes through out the house, The openings are on the outside of the house and when it was builts these fibrous tubes ran through all the baseboard areas. Every three months they shoot in some gaseous solution, not harmful to animals, I had to make sure because of the ferrets being close to the ground . A lot of people have never heard of this...Also called an in-home tubing system, in-wall pest control system is pest control that a pest control company usually installs during the home construction process. It was one of the benefits that came with our house. About 4 months after we signed out contract they started to make them an additional add on. You had to request and pay extra for them, they were no longer included because of the cost.
We due get an occasional bug in the house, usually brought in in grocery bags, of if my husband leaves the garage door to the house open. But if I see on every month, that is a lot. One time years ago we did have some ants, and we just called the company and they got right out and took care of it. After all, Florida houses are built on sand and ant hills LOL

Well I had to google yellow jackets. They are predators of other nuisance insects, however, if you are allergic they have to go. I am allergic to ticks. Repulsive things. All pets here must have meds to protect them. Since we've had geckos in the house we don't have many critters including spiders. We have new lockdown restrictions in Aus. Many more cases of Co-Vid . Looks like I'll have to weara mask tomorrow to my doctor's appointment....not looking forward to that. I've had some trouble with Fotki today...anyone else? Huronna we are also built on sand and the dreaded ants love it. If you must be in lockdown this is the place to be.Ben's partner Steph with Sid trying to get up on the table.

Hard to see Sid, but the marina looks lovely. Sorry about the masks, we still are required to wear masks into any medical facility here. We don't get any bugs in the house, except ants, living in the forest where there are plenty but it's dry here and they are happy outside. We do have an exterminator who deals w/ants and wasps but they were at a loss to find the yellow jacket nests, could be anywhere on our multi acre property he said. I think Badger the Exterminator found the nest and they are gone. My cleaner uses an ammonia solution on windows and light solution on casings and screens, repels the moths. We get an occasional mouse in the garage but never in the house. Traps w/peanut butter take care of that. At least the bears are staying away, they have come in since it's so dry but not here. Yet.
Fire is beyond 62,000 acres, 11% contained, and has caught up to the backburn, no smoke last night for us but it's extensive south. I think it's amazing how they use drones to set the traditional burn lines. John's always thought a fire coming up that canyon would pose a huge threat. Good news is it's burned out for the future but took out a lot of recreational hiking and climbing areas.

62,000 acres....you mean it's still growing? How scary. when you say it's caught up to the back burn, does that mean it can't go any father because there's nothing left there to burn? Masks again...arghhhh, so sorry Silk. I did have to wear one in the waiting room of the dentist, that was bad enough. I dread Aug when we fly to RI. Luckily we can park in the long term lot while we are gone. Disabled vets park for free, one of the few perks. but still will have to wear a mask as soon as we enter. Not looking forward to that part of the trip at all. I'm hoping that maybe by Sept when we fly to Malta the restrictions may be lifted.

Yes, it is growing but they are working to get it under control with containment lines built along roads, the huge backburn on the north and dropping fireballs into areas to burn the fuel ahead of the fire. That's the idea of the backburn because it borders a community w/very nice homes on at least 2 acre lots. Then they patrol and manage the edges with slurry bombers on the hot spots, water drops w/ helicopters. The northern backburn edge is holding as some of the other containment lines. inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/7567/Many stores here have lifted restrictions for those who have been vaccinated but are asking others to wear masks, tho most do anyway. My gym, the YMCA, is mask free for those vaccinated. We may fly back to the Midwest in Sept and I'm not looking forward to that.

WOW!, that map was amazing. I can't believe how many wild fires there are out west. There are a few people wearing masks, but its the vast minority. Even at the restaurant the other night, some of the wait staff were masked and some weren't.

It is amazing, and so are all those fire fighters who are keeping us safe. So, I've been busy in my Sunroom. Somehow I over watered the legacy Christmas Cactus my friend Rosemary gave me 4 years ago, not sure how that happened. So the plant started to die and I potted the leaves and they are rooting nicely. My African Violets needed repotting, so I tended to them. The one in the far right in the front in the 3rd photo is the daughter of the plant I inherited from my Granfather when he died in 1976. Sadly, that plant just died a few years ago, but it sure did live a long time. My Sunroom is my happy place, I love to go in there and sit with a glass of wine before dinner if I'm not outside on the patio.

I bet it's fun to see the wild life in front of that window. My husband has his orchid plants that he cares for on the lanai. Having ferrets in the house, we couldn't have live plants in the house. So I have lots of Silk arrangements, at least I don't have to water them LOL

Your plants seem to love that position Flagryl. I have my Zygo Cactus plants out side and they are blooming along with the Euphorbia. My orchids are also blooming outside. They do well in climate like yours and ours Huronna. A nice view for wildlife. Flagryl. I am just off to my doctor. Will read more later. Not looking forward to the mask since I have a sinus problem just now.

How nice to have a sunroom, Flagryl, with all your plants. I would spend lots of time there. I judge restaurants by the restrooms, too, Huronna. I'm kinda a germophobe about cleanliness in general. I seldom drink, but a good margarita gives them brownie points! Margie, I'm sorry about your sons' father. I will keep them and Ron's wife in my thoughts and prayers.
We got a new lawnmower today. I never do the yard, but it looks easy to use if I have to.

Goodmorning. That is a huge fire Flagryl. Are those the chairs you refurbished some time back.. beautiful. I had trouble wearing a mask yesterday to my Doctor's appointment. I was breathless but once in with him we both took them off. I will have the jab in a few weeks. This virus will never be eradicated. What type of lawn mower Casey.

Orchids and Euphorbia, oh my. And now Casey has a new lawn mower. No Silk, those are not the chairs I refurbished but your memory is good. They belong to a set that goes w/our patio table but John doesn't want to put them out, though they were outside for 8 years before a squirrel we think chewed at the fabric and it cost a bloody penny to have that offended chair repaired so now they reside in our garage and the 2 best rocker kind are in my sunroom. So much for outdoor living. You can tell it irritates me.
So, today I went to lunch with my friend Rosemary, who is moving down to the PHX area July 15, and our friend Karen. R has lost a lot of weight since her back surgery and resultant health issues and has no clothes that fit. All of her family from Texas to Colorado and Arizona are coming for a July 4th goodbye celebration on the 4th, Flag bed and breakfast places are bulging as she has a large family. Anyhoo, we decided to go with her shopping as it's hard for her to get around and find things. Between Karen and myself, we managed to get her some other items and she got some tops and crops and she's good to go. Hate to see this woman leave town but R says it's time.

Got tired up with a home owners' meeting tonight. The board is trying to add an addendum to the rules and regs. Another group trying to rule your life and tell you what you can and can't do. granted we bought in an area where there were rules, and we agreed with all of them, no problem. but the board has gotten a little dictatorial, and the home owners that have lived here since the beginning are a bit miffed. Got invited to dinner at our neighbors for Wed night. He keeps telling us to just stop over any time. well that is kind of impossible since they have a gate and a few guard dogs LOL. You can't just know on his door since it is quite the distance from the gate. It's the one we call the castle. They are so down to earth, no one would ever believe they live in that place. Tomorrow is pedicure day, and dinner with our God children and two of their children. They are down staying at their mom's place while she and hubby are in CA. I think I mentioned a while ago that Marcie (our God daughter) married a Muslim and converted, many years ago. But when his true color came out she divorced him, but the first weekend he had the kids, he kidnapped them and took them illegally back to Tunisia. Another long story. Took her 4 years to get the daughter back and another 2 with the help of the FBI to get her son back. Amazing story.
Off to bed I go, see you tomorrow, rest well everyone.

Flagryl I'm sorry about your friend Rosemary . I know you will miss her. The 4th of July celebration will be fun. How lovely Rosemary has some new clothes with your help. I've been feeling rather unwell this week but yesterday since I was already at the shopping centre where my doctor is I bought two pairs of pants . I always bring them home to see how they fit. Miraculously a perfect fit and they don't have to be shortened because mostly pants are shorter these days.I really struggled walking the distance but am glad to have the trousers. Huronna are you in a gated housing situation. I've just had a friend fighting a dictatorial board and she won. That's a hard situation your God daughter was in...it's happened so often here. Four and two years is a long time to be without her children and not to know when she'd see them. I can't imagine the pain. I am anxious about the Sydney lockdown . I really need to see my family. Our government was so lax in getting the vaccines. One of the worst countries in the West. I trying for an early night. Best wishes to everyone.
