If your computer is a laptop, you can put it in your carryon. If it is not a laptop, you can ship it via Flat Rate for pretty inexpensive. I love shopping Flat Rate. Basically you buy a box for anywhere from $3.99 - $15.99 depending on size, and whatever you can fit into the box ships for that price because postage is included. You can't beat that with a big hairy stick. When I moved back to Minnesota, I packed my flatscreen monitor in one box and wrapped it in fuzzy sweaters for padding. Then I took another Flat-Rate box and did my CPU the same way. Going Postal is easy.
As to flying, I love to fly too. I am one of the people who gets randomly selected for the extra TSA checks, but it is no biggie at all. They just do some extra checks like you open your bags and they look at them and you may have to take off your socks. One time I was going to a jewelry show and my carryon looked weird because I had $100,000 worth of crystals in there. I did not know that crystals won't show up on an X-Ray because they are so heavily leaded. Once they had me open my bag (they will always have you do that) and saw that it was beautiful necklaces and bracelets and loose beads, we all had a good laugh and they explained about lead.
I usually request extra assistance when I book my flights, and I have someone who walks me through Security and to my gate when I check in at the terminal desk. All airlines will offer that service. And you can ask for that when you check in if you want to.
And most airports have CinnaBon ha ha. Oh how I love the CinnaBon! And they have good newsstands where you can get all sorts of cool books and magazines. People are so friendly, so you can always find someone nice to pass the time with.
Some airports - like Minneapolis - have cool things inside the airport itself.
I love flying, although I am not a veteran like Huronna. When you are on that long flight, you will want to get up and walk around a little bit every so often.
