Well I am having surgery on Wednesday. I decided to take my life back! I have been overweight since childhood and with hard work it is going to change. Some people say that this is taking the "easy way out" but it really isn't. I am having a vertical sleeve gastrectomy done which means the surgeon will be removing 80% of my stomach.... yep 80. It will be a bit of a recovery as you can imagine but I have been contemplating this for several years. I went all the way through a program at a different hospital, had all of my pretesting work done, had my sleep study completed. The Psychologist I had to see said I had "anger issues" and I had to see someone for counseling which I did but at the time I was mad. I had been fighting to get my social security disability for years and had just one income at our house for a very long time. Anyways I wasn't thinking I just needed to have the sleep study done and I had called the Doctor who administered that and asked him to give me a surgery clearance and he proceeded to tell me I wasn't in compliance for wearing my CPAP mask. He wanted it worn for 8 hours. I don't usually get 8 hours a night. So I got depressed and what did I do? I ate and gained weight.
So I finally decided this time I was going to do it. Sydnee needs me here with her and I am tired of missing out between my weight and my M.S. I am dreaming of being able to get away from having to use a walker. I basically started using it after several falls and now I'm attached to it as I know how difficult it is to get me up after I hit the floor. My MS seems to be doing better with the Ocrevus so it's time to change my life!
Ok I think I am about done running my mouth (yes, Sydnee gets it honestly!) We will be heading to Toledo for my surgery Weds morning. Have to be there by 9:30 and Surgery is scheduled for 11:30. I will try to check in and let you know how it's going after. My Doc usually keeps you overnight but told me that sometimes people with MS need another day before they are ready to go home and he's OK with that.

Proud of you Mary. I've been heavy a good part of 25 years....mostly since I've gotten older and I've considered a gastric bypass many times cause I have a friend who had it done and has never gained the weight back. I've watched My 600 Lb Life on tv and that's going to be me some day if I don't stop eating. My daughters divorce and the sale of her huge home has curbed my appetite but for how long I don't know. I know.....excuses, excuses. I weigh over 200 lbs but I'm active and take care of our home and 2-1/2 acres but it's getting harder as I get older. I find that going to the gym soothes my body and soul. I hope your recovery goes well for you.

Ok. Surgery went very well per the Doc. He also fixed a hiatal hernia I didn't know about. Before surgery he was in to talk to us and he said I lost a bucket of weight during my liquid stage. I lost 10 pds.but if he wants to call it a bucket who am i to fight him lol
So i came home today. Still feel pretty rough but haven't gotten sick yet. Will be on clear liquids today and progress from there. Will be here as my body allows.
