Many of you know I've been struggling w/neck and back issues which have gotten worse since my extensive shoulder surgery 4 years ago. Degenerative disc disease [arthritis gift from my mother] and sports injuries have caught up with me. It's time to tackle the neck first.
The 2 level neck surgery to fuse C4-5 and 6-7 has been moved up and is scheduled for next Thursday, May 9. I am having a medial branch block for my lower back next Tuesday May 7 for L 3-4-5. He did 4-5-6 last time. This is in preparation for the cervical surgery because the lumbar discs 3/4/5/6 are fusing and nerves are affected. I can't lay on my back for long the way it is now and will have to in the neck brace. I will be in the hospital for 2 nights and wear a neck brace for 6-7 weeks. Full recovery [healing] will be 6-9 months.
Huronna has graciously taken the time to share some of Joe's experiences per his cervical surgery and I am hopeful I will have good results as well. My doc has done 1,500 of these and is nationally recognized. We have a great medical community here because docs love to live here! I have issues w/pain meds [don't work or make me sick] so I have special consult today to sort that out.
Not sure when I will be around. I had to drop 3 of my AD Auction entries because I didn't think I could fill all of them, but the surgery date had been the 15th and it got moved up. But, that's good for me. Sooner the better.

Seems we are all taking turns with medical issues. You realize most of us have been together for close to 20 years now And we aren't as young as we used to be. I'm sure you will be well put together after this surgery. You took very good care after your last one and also have a great nurse LOL, so make good use of him. I'll be in touch so will be able to keep people updated if you are unable to get on the computer. We all wish you the best and send lots of prayers and hugs to you

Wow, lots going on there girl. I hope all gets sorted and you can heal with little or no complications. I send you healing thoughts and lots of prayers. I'll be watching for updates.
20 years....doesn't seem possible, does it? We have seen people come and seen people go, but the base camp still remains stable - thank heavens. If I couldn't come in here when I wanted I would be lost.

Good luck on your surgery. My friend had a metal rod put in her lower back , this pass year. She seems to be doing alright with it now. Me I'm a big chicken when it comes to surgery myself. The last one I had was I had kidney stones surgery. The surgery was one day, but getting the stones out was worse then having a children again. The pain was terrible.

My very best wishes to you Flagryl. Surgery is never fun but in the end if you get relief it's worth the pain. I know. You will be in our thoughts and will look forward to Huronna keeping us up to date.

Thanks for all the well wishes. Good news, the surgery time got moved up so I'm to be there at 5:45 am tomorrow. AND, surgery assistant told me they don't use neck braces unless there are bone issues. Not getting my hopes up cause I tend to be a fooler, but shoulder doc said I had the worst arthritis he'd ever seen. He's mid 40's so there's that. Let's hope I don't have to wear neck brace, though I might feel safer. But, I guess there's better mobility and flexibility after recovery w/o brace. We'll see. Only 2 levels, 4 vertabrae so maybe I won't need one. Send me healing vibes and good throughts tomorrow.
Later gators...

I hope you can do without the brace also. Those things can irritate, be hot and just a pain. Prayers coming your way. Be safe and we will see you when you can come say hi.

You should be all ready to go. Can't image not needing a brace at least for some period of time, but the Doc knows what he is doing and I'm sure you will follow every direction to the letter. Maybe John will check in to let us know how things are going.
