I am happy to be smoke free for a week, but I am still struggling with not knowing what to do with myself, and I have gained 4 lbs. Huh? I didn't think I had eaten that much. True, I do feel hungrier, and I have had some lollipops, but I didn't think it was enough lollipops to warrant a 4-lb weight gain. It's also a Bad VooDoo Day - six years ago today I realized something was wrong with my ex. I didn't know what it was yet, but I realized he was malfunctioning. And it was also a Friday in 2009. I am almost a savant about dates. I can tell you the days of the week and moon phases and all sorts of weirdness. I don't think that is normal.

it isn't always that you are eating more it is that your metabolism is probably slowing down. That was one of the reasons I always gave for not stopping...I didn't want to gain weight. Cigs keep you hyper and your metabolism revved up.
Maybe now it is time to think about a gym

Congratsulations.
Everyone who stops smoking gains weight, but don't let that be your excuse for going back to it. Get out and walk, garden or like Huronna said the gym. There is plenty to do to keep you busy.
I chewed sugar free gum for the first few years after I stopped, but after that I didn't need anything. I got busy sewing and quilting.

Thanks everyone! I have a gym appointment on Tuesday. And a psych appointment. I have a nutritionist appointment in two weeks. Hee hee I took a nap this afternoon and then found I had lost two pounds. But I do need to move. I am sleeping awesome! And I am sleeping 8 hours a night. Without psych meds! So it's all good. I just need to do the gym and move more. I don't want a cig as much as I did this morning. That feeling comes and goes.

Good for you! I've proud of you.
Nothing white will help you lose the weight. I thought I couldn't do it but I've lost 24 lbs since February by cutting way down on carbs and sugar and going to the gym Lots of sugar free jello and nuts for snacks. Cardiologist told me to eat lots of protein when not eating carbs so I eat meat and veggies.....lots of fresh veggies.

Congratulations Gussey. That's wonderful. I often wondered why my weight never changes no matter what I eat . Although I am a bit heavier than I was ten years ago . Today in our local paper I read that your body has a weight it likes to be...a weight where it feels safe. Your weight set point where regardless of food or exercise choices your body stays at more or less the same weight... if you try to lose weight too rapidly your body freaks out and slows the metabolic rate to ensure it stays round it's preferred weight set point. You are more likely to have success to drop below your weight set point if you lose weight slowly and gradually. You all probably know this but I was interested.

It is interesting Silk. When I got divorced, I lost almost 180 pounds - 360 if you count the 180 lbs I lost when I got rid of my ex ha ha ha. I have gained some back, but it is in different places now. I went to the store today and walked past some of the employees who were having their breaktime. It smelled yucky, so the thrill is gone, but I still want one. Isn't that weird?

I have always been a non smoker Gussey so I don't know what it's like...just that it's darned hard for those trying to give it up. My son's little boy told him he smells and that's when Julien ( my son ) gave up smoking...he read a book on giving up and stopped at once. I guess he was lucky. His son said...I can hug you now daddy. We want you to be well ...I think you can beat it. ? Huronna...you did a great job and how amazing that the gym helped so much.

Everyone on here has done so well. Susy with her weight and everyone with their smoking! I went to a party yesterday, and the smoke was yucky. I wanted one, but I thought ooooo gross! I don't wanna smell like that. Sid has been having some COPD issues. He used to cough all the time, even though I smoked outside. He is not coughing as much so I wonder if I had been bringing it with me on my clothes or jackets and irritating him. I get to reward myself with tubes at the two week mark. :-) CDO is having a bonus tube sale and I have my eye on some pretty ones.
