My eldest son Julien will arrive very soon from Sydney to stay with me while Joe is in NZ attending 70th anniversary of Polish children orphaned by the Russians in WW2. New Zealand took 800.These children were taken by many western countries in 1942. The children and what remained of their families were sent to Siberia by the Russians. When the Russians changed sides these people were released by the Russians and told to find their own way down to Persia ..of course many died along the way.Joe's mother perished on the long trek to Persia where they were looked after by the red cross. An interesting story. I have to rush now to do some chores before Jules arrives.

Yes, it sounds very interesting. I knew nothing about any of that. I guess I'm not much of a history buff. Have a good time with Jules and we'll see you soon.

I've not read this book but have heard about it, The Long Walk: The True Story of a Trek to Freedom by Slavomir Rawicz. Wasn't it made into a movie? Same event. I am so sorry for Joe, I'm sure attending this anniversary event will be once again traumatic.

I never heard about any of it either, it would be very interesting to read about though.
Enjoy your time with your Son. I grew up in Newcastle but now live in Queensland.

Have a wonderful visit with your son. Thanks for the story - it's amazing to learn of some of our families' histories and what they went through.
